OUR WORKSHOP
The Craft
Behind the Name
A small, considered workshop in Kuala Lumpur dedicated to the service and restoration of mechanical timepieces.

Where Horotempus Began
Horotempus grew from a simple belief: that a watch worth wearing is a watch worth caring for properly. Founded in Kuala Lumpur, the workshop was shaped by years spent studying mechanical movements — not just their operation, but the philosophy behind their construction.
The name draws from the Latin roots for time and craft. It reflects what we try to do each day — take time seriously, and treat the work with the attention it deserves.
We are a small workshop by design. That means each timepiece receives individual attention, and no work is rushed to meet throughput targets. Our clients tend to appreciate this — they are people who understand that some things take time to do well.
Over the years, the workshop has developed particular experience with vintage and heritage pieces — watches that may no longer have factory support, but whose mechanical integrity can often be restored with patience and the right approach to sourcing.
Our location at 23 Jalan Sultan Ismail places us in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, accessible to those who wish to bring their timepiece in person. We prefer direct conversation to intermediaries — understanding what a piece means to its owner helps us make better decisions about how to treat it.

HOW WE WORK
Workshop Standards
Documented Assessment
Each piece receives a written condition assessment before any work is proposed. We do not proceed without your awareness of what is found and what is intended.
Grade-Appropriate Lubricants
We use lubricants selected for the specific contact points and operating ranges of each movement — not generic substitutes that may cause accelerated wear.
Secure Custody
Watches in our care are stored in a locked, climate-managed environment. They do not leave the workshop premises without owner instruction.
Honest Advice
If a piece does not warrant the cost of a particular service, we will say so. Our interest is in giving you accurate information, not maximising the scope of each job.
Originality Preservation
For vintage pieces, modifications that diminish historical integrity are avoided. Patina, original surfaces, and period hardware are respected where functional.
Data Discretion
Personal and contact information shared during enquiry or service is used only for that purpose and is not shared with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
A Workshop for Mechanical Timepieces in Kuala Lumpur
Mechanical watches — whether newly acquired or passed down through a family — are among the few objects that remain fully serviceable across generations. Their complexity is also their strength: unlike sealed electronics, every component of a mechanical movement can be accessed, cleaned, and replaced when needed.
At Horotempus, we work on the movements themselves, not simply the exterior. This means the expertise required is different from a general jeweller or a watch retailer offering battery changes. Our focus is the calibre — its pivots, gear train, escapement, and mainspring — and the case elements that protect it.
Kuala Lumpur's climate — warm, humid, and variable — places particular demands on mechanical movements. Servicing intervals appropriate in temperate climates may need to be shorter here, and lubricant selection matters. These are considerations we factor into our work and our advice.
